accelerator difficult to press?

Postby PIFFTS » Sat Jul 20, 2013 2:43 pm

Recently, when I press my accelerator pedal, it depresses just enough to move the truck faster than idle(about an inch). Then, it is very difficult to depress the pedal further. At some times, I feel like I Have to nearly stand on the pedal for it to depress. Is my cable binding at that point? I couldn't see anything out of order under the hood... maybe it's binding in the housing? I guess I'll go out and disconnect the throttle cable to see if the mechanism will open/close easier when I manipulate it by hand(then I'll know if it's the cable).

Anyone have this problem? is it common?

Seems like the trans cable is bending upward just behind the throttle linkage. Guess I'll try to adjust the cable

Sounds like the trans cable is bad or the lever in the trans is stuck.

I have one here that has that problem. I degreased & washed the engine and parked the truck for an extended period of time. Degreaser and water get into the throttle kick down cable and then rust forms on the cable inside of the housing. The general consensus is to remove the cable and try some rust penetrating oil. If that fails then get an outside LP gas turkey cooker and a big old pot. Put the cable in the pot and cover it with oil. Bring it up to ALMOST a low simmer and let it cook for a while. The heat expands the housing and lets the oil work its way into the cable.
