home made air filter

Postby jethro » Fri Oct 31, 2014 6:46 pm

has anyone tried making a home made air intake filter using a big shop-vac filter ?
Don't know if the shop-vac filters have an internal screen to support the filter and prevent it from collapsing in.
do filters have to be able to tolerate being wet and not break down ? (and get sucked into the turbo)

Those style of filters are made to keep out dirty, not flow air. What I mean by that is, they have a tiny cfm rating per size. It would not be able to get the air through the filter and literally suck it in.

BHAF is about the best, affordable filter we can put on our trucks. They are INCREDIBLY tough and move allow enough air through for anything a ve can use.

Errrrr, I don't think that's exactly accurate, RC. I know I had a significant smoke reduction going from a paper BHAF to a similar-sized Pro-Dry AFE filter.

The cost is pretty similar, BHAF's have creeped up a bunch.
