1989 Power Ram 318c.i. 4x4...help needed

Postby hokietiger » Sat Jul 26, 2014 11:37 am

:?: Hi gang,

My 1989 Power Ram 5.2L, 318 c.i. auto trans 4x4 has IDLE CONTROL ISSUES...Its starts O.K when cold (slight surge then idles down to normal rpm) and idles normally until warmup...However, after warm up and stopping at traffic signals, etc. the idle surges and the engine may also stop. Then, it is difficult to restart.

Any advice??

Also, what is the BEST spark plug to use for this truck??....I do not have a service manual yet but plan to get one asap.

Thanks so much!!!

Check all the vacuum hoses for condition. Air leaks threw bad vacuum hoses into the engine will drive the idle control nuts.

The only plugs I used in Dodge gassers were champion. I had issues with motorcraft and delco plugs.

Thank you....I will do so.
I removed, dismantled, and cleaned the Idle Air Control Sensor. I agree with you that a vacuum issue is probably somewhere.

Thanks again!!
