picked this baby up for 3500 a few months ago [img][/img][img][/img] she needs some tlc but has the 5 speed getrag trans and is a blast to drive. i think it might have a 4:10 gear as it does about 80 maybe 85 tops i havent pushed it that much yet. unknown miles. but have some questions the fuel pin is the only thing that has been messed with by the previous owner and he stated he put it in the max fuel position what should i be seeing for egts? the previous owner also mounted the pyro probe post turbo and i know its supposed to be mounted on the manifold but i bought a new probe and just havent had time to install it. the truck aways runs cool nowhere near the middle of the factory guage would bumping the pump timing help my egts and make my truck run warmer ? Im still a noob to the cummins but am ready to learn

Welcome!

That's a pretty nice W350 8)

Rotating the stock fuel pin to its deepest position won't increase the EGT's too much. As off the EGT's, having the probe in the exhaust manifold is the best place for it, just remember to not drill in the center, as there is a divider there. Getting the truck warmer may be just as simple as blocking part of the radiator off, I have to do it every winter with mine, otherwise it runs way too cool. There is loads of good information on this forum, the search function kinda lacks, but it works. Best results are using the "google custom search" function at he top of the page.

Also like to add to Ike's post that it should be on the back runner of the manifold. Number 6 usually runs the warmest. Nice old truck ya got I love the 89-90 grills :thumright:

well thanks for the replies and compliments guys. kinda gives me peace of mind knowing my truck wont grenade itself pulling what i want to pull at least provided i watch my egts and dont push er too hard. i do have half the radiator blocked off as well as the clutch fan removed. it finally got to half the gauge after i pulled a shed on the gooseneck the other day and it sat after and idled for a few. i plant to replace the pyro lead and probe one weekend soon but first i need to re do all the trailer wiring as its a rat nest from the previous owners handiwork with splice connectors and extra wires >:(
