newbie wanting to repower my wife's centurion

Postby crossent » Tue Jan 08, 2008 2:17 am

Hey guys, as the intro says i"m looking to repower the wife's centurion(4 door 1ton bronco). I like the simplicity of the 1st gen. I found a donor rig. It's a 91 350 auto w/stake bed and has 94k on it. It was used for hay hauling at a feed store in so cal. Not alot of hay hauling going on around here so I'm sure thats why the mileage is lower. I want to use the truck for my buisness for a while and get the motor (performance wise) where I would like it to be before I do the switch. I can get the truck for 2k. I have never worked an a 5.9 ,so i'm asking if there is anthing I should look out for and does this sound like a good price?
Thanks in advance

The price is good. You didn't say if it was 2wd or 4x4. But for that price it doesn't matter.

Is the truck intercooled?

Yeah 2k is a steal. You can part it out to pay for all the costs of the swap. destoked.com is an excellent source for swap parts. Very reasonable too. Sounds cool keep us posted.

It's a 2wd,Non intercooled.I was talking to randy @ reliable diesel in az and he said to use a 618 3 pin trans and t-case out of a 94-95 dodge to keep cost down and give me a overdrive w/lock-up converter that could be controlled by a button on the dash or a dimmer switch on the floor.

Talk to destroke, They do this all the time. The E4OD can be built easily enough to handle the meat of the 1st gen. And the adapters would only run you around $1200 including mounts and trans controller. Then all you have is the engine compartment and wiring.

I talked to them yesterday. 795 for trans to motor adapter,625 for flexplate and 850 for a harness for the trans. The 618 dodge trans and t-case needs no adapters.

Mike,

Here are a couple of good web sites for the swaps if you did not know about them.

www.cummins-conversion.com
www.4btswaps.com they have a 6bt section

There is also athread on pirate 4x4

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthre ... 5&posted=1

I am currently in the process of swapping in a 6bt into an 89 f350 crew cab.

Enjoy

Since it's for your wife, look into using pressure switches in the governor pressure test port to run the OD and lockup.
