Michigan on Thursday....Cool pic!

Postby Mark Nixon » Tue Dec 15, 2009 9:06 am

On Thursday I am looking to be in the Detroit, Michigan area to pick up an engine, deliver cores and pick up a '69-1/2 Road Runner for a friend.

Looks like I'll be empty running out, so I can likely move something reasonable.

The reason I went, partly, was to pick this car up for a buddy:

Its a Road Chicken, originally equipped with a "half dozen" 440 under the hood.
Missing the DANA and the original engine and trans, but it's in exceptional shape bodywise, for a Michigan car.
The hauler has performed surprisingly well on 3 extended trips, now.
"We" had a couple of arguements on the 1st trip, and a tiff on the 2nd, but on this trip it finally saw that I was "master" and performed reasonably well for a guest who made the trip with me.

He'd sell the car, but I'd hate to even guess what it'll take to buy it, he's into it DEEEEEPPPP!!

Bill, I did procure the engine from Dale.
It'll be interesting to see what it looks like.

I was looking at springs for the hauler and thought I saw some that were rated 1,000 pounds per side over stock diesel ones, but fit the '78 style front, with no spring cushions.
They weren't MOOGS, not sure on the brand.
Figured I might use those and a set of cushions and it might ride a bit stiffer and higher.
I need to do something, because I got a set of 19.5s, and they won't clear at the unloaded ride height right now, let alone if I get it brought back up.
May have to go to low-profiles in the front, re-work the fender openings, or do a cab lift.
Of course, for the practical reason of getting it lifted up, I'd considered converting to 4WD and sticking a 6 speed I found in it, too.
