Drove my Cummins to the slope.............

Postby dodgetkboy78 » Mon Dec 21, 2009 1:45 am

Well, it was COLD.... The front seat ain't no sleeper, the stock heater ain't that warm, the 16" tires don't take the potholes like the 22.5's, but hey, it was FUN!
(I wont do it again, big truck for me)

I shipped my trailer up, and pulled it back, (The job ended up shorter, so I had about 8K behind me)......... I got a video pulling Atigun pass, it was dark, but I guess you can still hear the turbo, and kinda see the high side of the road......... I'll post it. Cant imagine what I would have done without my exhaust brake, not only for the hills, but the pedal bypas switch kept my EX temp at 650 at 900RPM, it ran like that for, oh, like three days, LOL.

Sorry about the pics....... It's kinda dark up there, even when it is light..

Maybe if I go back (ina real truck) later in the year, I'll get some sunny pics.

But for now.......

You know, I have never been there.......... Drove by it.....

I either was working for Veco/Halliburton/Pool, or staying in my truck, on the road somewhere inbetween.

The small job I did, was for Colville, nice guys, and the camp was pretty nice too.....

All I got to do was sit around and wait for something to break on our airplane.

Looks like your truck is a 2wd? I reckon you must use tire chains a fair bit.

Not really...... I have a set of double rails that have been put on like ten times. in like eight years. I carry them so I don't need them. I guess I have been driving 2x trucks in the winter here so long, and bigger trucks, I just drive..... It is amazing what a little thinking ahead, and throttle control will do. (And the stick, auto's get stuck easy.) most don't like open end rears, I have drove SEMi here, gone from palmer to Homer, in the wet snow, in an EDP, and never even locked the power divider in. All your drive wheels are driving, until you spin.

When it's winter from OCT to APRIL, I guess you just get used to it.

I guess its a diffrent snow too. Here most of my 2wd are hosed in the snow. If the snow is packed no problem, but if its deep the front is so heavy and the rear so light they just won't go unless you fill the bed up with weight. Then it is hard to haul anything, catch22 I suppose.
