you really do NEED the exhaust mount on the bellhousing

Postby lectro_static » Wed Feb 17, 2010 11:44 pm

From the title you guessed it, broke my down pipe AT the flange, literally the flange was in the clamp and the pipe was hanging. I was at our shop 20 miles from home so........ took a piece of 3.75 x2.25 long tubing split it done the middle. Welded a small bead around the inside of the ring to latch the turbo like the clamp does, welded two tabs on it and bolted that up tight to the turbo. Then I welded the other side to the exhaust. Good thing Im changing turbos soon, guess it will be sooner then I thought it would be......

Yeah, you better! The flange just isn't strong enough to carry the weight of the front pipes. 4" exhaust is even worse with more weight.

Mine is 4" ugh....... I need to find what I did with that bracket or just build a new one. Good to know Im not the only one that doesnt have it installed. Better bet as soon as I upgrade the turbo it will be done. Would do it now but Im not driving it much if at all and the new turbo will be getting put on in a week or two.

The directions in a STANS 4 inch kit says not to use the bellhousing mount. Maybe I should? NA, it would require me to get under the truck. :D

I have a 4" pipe and mine fit. I think I had to bend the bracket or twist it or something. I can't remember, it was beer day. ;)

i found the bolt in the bellhousing is broken off

Jeff that bolt hole goes all the way threw the adpater. Thats not to hard of a problem. When my bolt broke off. I was able to remove the broken piece. Then I cleaned up the thread in the hole with a tap. I then found a 3/8" X 3.5" bolt threaded full length and ran it all the way threw the adapter. Then I used a nut on the mount.

That repair is about 8 years old now and has not broken agin.

I replaced to down pipes after trips to OK. The bell housing mount came loose during the trips.

i saw the bolt goes all the way thru. im gonna try to drill it out, and it that doesnt work grind it flat and just drill a new hole. im not really concerned with it right now, as its sitting with a dripping ip and a bad ignition switch right now anyway. the switch is supposed to show up today, still not sure what im gonna do about the ip.
