Full size Kimber 1911 in .45, cause its all I have in terms of pistols. Been looking at a compact 1911, an XD, or a Beretta 96A1. Kinda got the wheel gun itch too, something like an old Smith 581, or model 36

x3 on a Kimber. I have a full size and dad has a Pro-Carry. Both pricey, but you get exactly what you pay for.

Get your hands on a few different models/brands and go with what fits and what you can shoot well. Caliber is largely irrelevant when it comes down to it. Anything is going to get the other person's attention.

I've been trying to find a hammerless .38 for a while now.

Caliber is quite relevant. If you ever have to pull your concealed, you better be absolutely planning on shooting whatever is scaring/threatening you. If you use your gun to "get the other person's attention" you could very well be charged with public endangerment, brandishing weapon, threatening, etc.
Shot placement is more important than caliber IMO. Five rounds of .45 or 10mm in the stomach is not as good as a couple 9mm in the head. If that's what you were referring to by "get attention" then disregard the first part of my post. :D

A 9mm might be better than .45 for a lot of people due to reduced recoil. Doesn't matter how big your bullet is if you flinch so bad you can't hit anything. Also, it's easier to get back on target for followup shots, with a round that has less recoil. All that being said, bigger is still better so you should get the largest caliber that you can reliably and repeatedly hit a target with.

Also look into mag capacity. Larger caliber handguns, especially ones for concealing usually offer much less round capacity. That's one thing I dislike about my 1911, only allows for 7+1. I usually carry two extra mags with me for that reason.

Yes, I was trying not to be graphic. ;) Resistance of any kind is often sufficient to deter an attack. I NEVER want to kill somebody, but I am more than willing to defend me and my own.

I carry a smith sheild in 40 and love it. I also carry a smith 642 38. Wife carries a bersa 380. If you know how to use it, a 22 will do the job.

The LCR's are nice, but there light. With full house .357 loads, its a handful to hold on while firing, especially if you have big hands. We hand loaded some lighter .38's to practice with, its nice otherwise

Fatty has it right....in my thin book anyhow. In a situation that calls for it you want to be as comfortable as possible with a weapon. A 22lr pistol is just as deadly as a 45acp if you know how to use it. I'll bet money most don't walk away from a magazine of cci mini mag fired from my wife walther p22. She's comfortable with it and can tag a target sheets 1st ring with all 12 rounds at 30'.
If it were smaller and didn't print like hidding the titanic,I'd sport my stainless p89 ruger or the 247 g2 45acp Taurus I have. I could also run the stainless 6" judge I have....but I rather carry a 2x4 with a 16p nail in the end,in my pocket. None of those have total comfort character to them to me. Plus do I really want to loose a 5 6 700$ pistol in the end or do I want to loose, sweat, spill drinks on it. I'll take a junker that is reliable.....
It's all in how you look at it. Me I ain't gonna ruin a nice pistol sitting, sweating and mashing on it....that's for folks that have money to burn.

Lol Ellis, my Kimber was a gift. I print anything but a derringer, so i may as well carry what I'm comfortable with. When I carry.
