90% of my driving is in Clinton and Tippecanoe counties. If indeed, I was wrong, and I don't have truck plates on my Dodge and I'm supposed to, I'd be even more ticked off at the government than normal. If that's true, I tried to legally plate my vehicle and they allowed me to have a plate that's not legal for it. The last plates I had were 7k lbs and I crossed Wampler's scales in Frankfort several times at 10k+. Oops

Edit: According to the BMV's web site, specialty plates can be used of vehicles up to 11K lbs. So I'm good. Most of the time.

The difference is that NOW you know you are likely not legal.
To-morrow would be the day I cancel all prior commitments and hoof it over to BMV/DMV and chew some ass.
Better to chew someone else's ass before you get hit, than after, even if it IS someone else's fault, because NOW you know the difference.

What is in your favor, if you get stopped, is that you can use the "I'm just a dumb kid" defense, due to your age and it *MIGHT* work.
Don't hold your breath, though.

We got stopped yesterday for vehicle inspection. They are complete assholes about it around here and we were just cruising down the road. Trucks registered under a business with no name. Soon as they ran the plates he pulled us over to do a 45 minute inspection. Glad i wasn't driving since i don't have my medical card.

They didn't used to really care about that (even if you drive a big truck). Now, you get fined. Rarely get asked if I have one or not. Fine costs as much as just going to get your card in the first place.

Not to mention it puts you out of service and they will impound the truck if you cant find someone to move it for you.

The first thing I look at is the main support beams and how the axle supports are welded on, along with tongue reinforcements.

I call BS on that Ebay listing NOT being an attempt to bash the builder, though the builder certainly would need to make it right one way or another if it were me.
But it wouldn't have BEEN me, because I could have seen they were selling me crap.

I agree. Don't know how someone could even make a trailer built like that, and sell it. I've never seen a trailer with channels stacked on top of each other and welded up to make it taller.

So, did they mention probable cause for even running the plate?
"Speeding a little"? "Dirty Plate"? "No Brake Light"?
Why'd they run the plate?

Could've been flagged as a business truck, with no name or DOT numbers.................. They run plates sitting behind you at a stop light, if they want too. We can't talk on cellphones driving down the road, but its OK to operate a computer on the move. Figures, huh? :pig:

Oh I have one better. In high school there was a sheriff present in the morning that was supposed to patrol the parking lot. I walked in behind his car and I could see that he was playing Solitare on his computer. I did this several times. I'm glad that he is so diligent in his work.

We were pulling a trailer with a license plate on it was all. He pulled behind us and was back there for about three miles. Pulled us over and wrote my buddy a warning for about 30 things.

IIRC, in KY, trailer plates aren't required UNLESS it's commercial, correct?
I seem to recall a guy I knew in Berea, KY telling me something like that a few years ago.

If so, there is the probable cause.

Been pulled over twice in KY. All they wanted to see was the logbook and med card. "You didn't do anything wrong driver, just want to check your logbook and crap." Gee, thanks for wasting 45mins of my time, and I'm sure the calves enjoyed the extra time without feed and water too. Not to mention running the clock out of time faster on me.

Would be more impressed if he was doing that while driving around the parking lot!

I thought some states didn't really even require a title, let alone a plate, on a trailer? Something odd like that............. Been a while.
