Sheesh, I was gonna bitch about how summer has come and gone, I hadn't even gotten to enjoy it. Other than a couple shows with the military trucks, been working 45-50hrs week at work, then my own welding/fab shop has been bustling, keeping me busy with some pretty cool builds, repairs etc. I find myself hardly sleeping to accommodate all this, but sthi, after reading Johns post, I feel like its been easy compared to his summer :D

Took the new one to her first check up, which went ok. Had to get some lab work done, checking on her Bilirubin count (similar to jaundice). I get a call two hours later telling me to get her up to the U of Iowa Hospital NICU for treatment immediately. She's been under lamps for six hours now, and her Bilirubin count is coming down a bit. Heck of a shock to her mother and I, but I have been through this before with my other daughter when she was born, ten weeks early. Everly was three weeks early, but other than this Bilirubin stuff, she is still healthy. Glad we caught it early, and hopefully in two days we can all go home again.

I've had that scare before... our son had to be under the lamps for 48 hours (IIRC).

Good thing they caught it early.

I know! I'm already back at school. I worked 40+ hours at the Cat dealer, then did hay on top of that. There were some days that I was on the clock from sunrise to sunset. I can't cant complain though. The pay was good and I'd much rather be busy than bored.

Well, the white truck is officially kaput! I pulled the doors for repair and pulled the box today. I'm going to throw a for sale sign on it and see if I can get some money out of it. It's rusty over the wheel wells and dented to crap, but it's still pretty solid. I did some other odds and ends too, I'm wiped out! :( I think I'm going to build a rear bumper for it, the stocker is getting rusty and it's twisted pretty bad.
On a good note, the neighbor took the manifold / converter from the Hyundai to the scrap yard and came back with $130! CHA CHING! 8)

Did they actually give him cash? Around here you have to wait 2 weeks and they mail you a check unless something seems sketchy. You get a visit from the sherif for questioning then.

I always take stuff to the small scrap yard in the next county for that reason among others. You walk out with cash and no questions asked. Granted that attracts a lot of sketchy characters. If you show up with a lot of aluminum, copper, converters, DPFs, etc, they'll ask you where its from. The problem around here is people will steal converters or DPFs and sell them to a buyer out of Chicago for a cut rate. They still get money to buy drugs without the risk of selling one DPF a week at the scrap yard.

Yup, real cash money! I'm sure if he walked in with 6 or 7 of them they would have been asking questions. A couple years ago My buddy had a bunch of converters stolen. Somebody climbed under a few cars he had and cut them off with a battery Sawzall. He went to start 1 and it was louder than heck, so he looked under it, then checked the others. I think they got 3 or 4 of them.

So I took my old Vgt apart today. The exhaust side was cleaner than I expected while the compressor side was a lot dirtier than it should be. The comp wheel is black from oil it sucked from the crankcase vent, and the mating surface between the comp housing and cartridge had a fair bit of oil on it. The actuator, and slide were in really nice shape though as they moved very smoothly, and without much effort. After the amount of miles on it the turbine housing really did not want to come off

Luckily there's quite a lot of material on the cartridge so I took some penetro to it followed by a pry bar. Putting it back together yeah those will be a great idea. I took a small flat blade and scraped the inside where there collar rests when fully open, and it was just a very thin coating of soot. Looks like I know how to take care of a Vgt

Pulled last night. Had three classes. First class was 10,000 hot farm, open rpm. Got fifth place some how at 300.2 feet. Paul pulled the 9,500 class and couldn't get it to light. Water keeps putting it out. I pulled the 10,500 class and couldn't get it to light but the motor pulled me to 97 feet. After disqualifications I got third place, kinda sad actually. It was a terrible track. I'll post the hot farm pull.

You know it!

With a somewhat heavy heart, I feel as though I should inform you all that I am moving on vehicle wise.

It all started shortly before I wrecked the Dodge. Got stuck in a perfectly dry field trying to pull a hay wagon out. I was fed up with a 2wd truck so I started looking for a 4x4. I started looking at 1st gens, 2nd gens, OBS F350s, and 7.3L Super Dutys. I got a handle on the market and found that financially the SDs where the best buy, being newest. I started hunting for regular cabs with the ZF6 and called too late on a few.

I listed my Dodge a week ago yesterday and Thursday a kid came to look at it. He had to have it, claiming it was the cleanest 1st gen he'd seen in a while. He made a down payment and claimed he'd be back on Tuesday, as he banks out of town. For those doing market research, I got $4700 for the truck plus a bed load of parts.

Yesterday, I picked up this:

Image

2002 F250 diesel, 4x4, manual, XLT trim. I gave $5800.

So I guess you won't see me much around here anymore. I maintain that the 1st gen guys I've met through this site are the nicest people in the diesel scene. I still have some deals outstanding with some folks and I'll make good on those.

Flame suit on
