I'm really considering a new truck...

There's things I like about all of the big three right now...

I'm a Dodge kinda guy for sure, but the GMC/Chevy's look nice as well. I also like the looks of the Ford, and if I really thought they could build a diesel that would hold together I'd give them a look. Supposedly 440 horse and 860 lbs of torque for the 2015 Powerstroke. I've just heard too many horror stories to risk the $$$$. Not that I can afford a new truck right now anyway.

For diesel its Ram or a Duramax, I am afraid of the powerstroke too. If I were to go gas, I might go with the ford, but I am checking out the dodges with the 6.4, they look pretty good too.

NFW I'd buy a PS either. It's just been too many years of bad engine issues after engine issues for me to ever trust them. I might own a 7.3 if somebody gave me one, but with the problems Andy has been having with his I'm not sure about that either!

The 6.7 Powerstrokes have been very reliable for us at MidAmerican, and the linemen and gas guys beat the ever living snot out of their equipment. The F550's we have run at 15K for weight all the time, and the diesels get 8-10 mpg...the gassers are getting about 4-5 mpg. We have a mixed fleet on all trucks 2010 and newer on the F550's, meaning half gas powered and half diesel powered. All the F350's are gassers. I drove a newer F350 while our service trucks were down, they are pretty nice for a work truck, no rattles or squeaks, decent on power, but very thirsty. I burned through a tank a day, granted it was almost all in town, stop and go crap, along with lots of idle time.

I think the 5/4 and 6/4 tons are detuned diesels?

Apparently a lot of the new ford gas engines (the ones that they just developed a couple years ago) are have problems where stuff in the cam areas wear out and can possibly damage the engine. This usually happens just after the engine comes off warranty

we've had a few blow up at Alliant. We've stopped buying them. Its all Dodge from now on, so far so good on then engines, there has been a couple electrical problems mainly with Altec wiring the brake controller wrong but haven't heard of anything major yet and We've been running them since 2012.

There is a guy on TDR that works in the oil field business, his company got a bunch of 6.7's close to 2 years ago now. He posts with the problems they have and keeps the guys updated on how they are doing. He said they had a rash of valve seats dropping in them last summer. I haven't been on there in a while so I don't know what's going on lately.

Unfortunately, MidAmerican won't touch Dodge trucks, the one rental we had, I had to rewire most of the rear truck wiring...thanks to Altec. The operator of the rental loved it compared to his newer F550, but in the end, he got a new V10 powered F550.

I've had to rewire all of the ones that have came in. Its mainly our J560 plug that they wire wrong. And if you call them for a wiring schematic they don't have one. lol they talked about going to v10s in the fords but decided to switch to dodge.

All our F-350's are now 6.7's, we haven't had any problems... yet.

Our 6.7's didn't have any real issues until they started getting up there in miles. Some of the problems are because of the roads we drive on (the bosses truck currently has the abs light, and the check engine light illuminated. All of our trucks have had abs issues) out ram has had boots blow off of the air shutoff. All of them have also had emissions equipment problems

Alright so I took the plunge, ordered a truck and put down a deposit.

I ordered a Tradesman 2500, 4WD, RC, with the CTD and G56 (How's that for some alphabet soup?) along with a few options. MSRP about 45K... 34K before tax, title and registration. Color is "Maximum Steel Metallic"



Will look something like this (I didn't get the clearance lights, or the tubular steps though).
I'm probably going to keep my 1st gen around, just in case something falls through and I gotta sell this thing and ditch the payment.
