I'm not a pillar pod guy. Whenever I get around to gauges, boost gauges are going on the column. The pyro and trans temp will go where the ash tray used to be.

Gauges on the pillar = sleeper status gone

I've never liked the sleeper status.... cuz until that moment that you blow someone's doors off, you're still driving a pos. So I find myself racing everyone.

Have a truck that looks fast, sounds fast, and just looks manly... you never have to race. And when someone wants to and you don't.... they then think that they weren't worth your time. Which that makes you look even faster.

That's one of the reasons why I mounted the mini maxx in my 4th gen in the bottom right corner of the gauge cluster, but I think I lose it by having 5" exhaust with an 18" long 6" tip. I do want a-pillar gauges for it though since it's such a convenient place to look as you drive

That's a really good point Eric. That's probably why I don't go for sleepers

If the rich city boy in daddy's truck sees gauges, a tip, obnoxious stickers, etc. it gives him the excuse to set the tuner on kill and hoss the gas. I ain't about that. I fly under the radar. Way under the radar. No one ever blows smoke at me and I like it that way.

No one is astute enough though to notice the intercooler in my grille though.

I forget how some of the country is.. we don't have that around here. We have a LOAD of trucks that are serious.... I'm talking 650+ daily driver (new trucks) and they are past that rolling coal stage. I can't remember the last time I seen a truck smoke someone out. I've actually got probably one of the smokier trucks in the area. And for the power mine makes it is incredibly clean.

rarely around here do people race. I've never had anyone blow smoke at me, except as a kind of wave between 1st genners, and I was the one to do it first

My area is like that too, mainly because of Fleece. I've seen numerous Fleece affiliated trucks in town that were featured in Diesel Power. Tuned 6.4Ls are big here too. While they're not 650+, they're a strong 5-550. But on the other end of the spectrum, we have a lot of 2nd gen 12vs and some Duramaxes that do their best to pollute to the max. Those are the type I try to avoid and I just tell them "It's stock" when I'm filling up.

Don't get me wrong, a built trans and well tuned Duramax would eat my lunch. So would a tuned 6.4L. I mostly maintain an ultra-conservative low profile stock appearance to be different. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, has a debadged truck with black rims, color matched bumpers, dark tinted windows, and a tip. Boring.

I think my 2nd gen says sleeper all over it...
Still has the stock tires and rims and original V-10 Magnum badges on it from when I got it. Only way you'd know it was a diesel is if you heard it or realized a 3" tail pipe was too big for a gasser;)

What? No first gens in the Diesel Power Challenge?

Here's my idea for a DPC winner: '92 or '93 W250 regular cab. Stand alone 6.7L with twins, manual VB 48RE, flipped 271, and a D80. Complete with dog dishes!

Think of how much of an advantage that would have. I bet it'd weigh 1000 lbs less than most of the crew cab CRs. Weighing less it should break less, be faster at the strip, and get better fuel economy.

I could even see a "THE HUNGRY DIESEL" wrap on it!

I was going to try to enter dpc when I finished The Roo Hunter. Hopefully with 1200 fuel only horsepower. That'd put you pretty high in the rankings on the dyno since everyone else that hits that mark is on nitrous.

I'd be willing to sponsor a truck for the dpc.

In theory, a 1st gen could do quite well with 500 fuel only. Not sure what a 12mm ve could do on nitrous.

I've thought about putting a ve on a 6.7 and seeing what it could do. With nitrous I suspect your max is somewhere around 600whp. In a 1st gen or in the duck with the right tires that'd still probably be very competitive in the drag race. Then if you were to have Ellis' monster fuel tank you could fill it up and probably do alright in the sled pull

I've been trying to find a cheap 24v to put in the Duck with a VE but everyone has gotten insane on the price of engines around here.

There seems to be a sweet spot around 100hp/1000lbs in the DPC. The trucks making 1000hp and weighing 8000lbs always seem to break. Any less than the 100hp/1000lbs would not be competitive.

Say you take the 1st gen I mentioned earlier and it weighs 6000lbs. 700 hp (to be safe) at 6000 lbs is good for parts' longevity. Go with a 6.7L for torque, a CR for ease of tuning, and a 48RE, 271, and D80 for strength. Get the suspension lined out and then the hardest part of the whole deal would be getting people to vote for a 700 hp 1st gen

Everyone wants to see a 1000 hp mega cab that is all but guaranteed to break. That's not a good show in my opinion.

At 640hp.... my RC would explode into a gazillion pieces. I'm already breaking things, ok it's starting anyways. It can't handle the torque. Hp isn't the issue.... the tq is what is making my drivetrain grenade.

Folks from the newer generations simply don't understand that a hot, high hp, ve.... will make 12-1300 foot pounds of tq with a manual trans. That is the same as most 600-700hp trucks.
