Want to go insane? Start dealing with a not-stock Duramax. My buddy has an '05 crew cab shorty with a "built" Allison, intake, exhaust, fuel pump, and some tunes written by some pickle pirate out west.

"Why does it do this?", "Why does it do that?" IDFK, but efiLive does. Don't ask the pole smoking tuner. Assess the situation, understand it, and fix it. Every stinking truck is different, even if they are consecutive serial numbers with identical modifications. I'm a MFing Shade Tree Mechanic, I'd fix it myself!

Rant over.

LOL
It may be hateful to delight in someone elses struggle but.....I gotta say,it's Nice when somone else knows my struggle on a daily bases
It might not be the exact same scenario but close......"my trans was working fine but it just stopped pulling" "oh....and I've been seeing red stuff on the carport" and I say "have you checked your transmissions fluid" and they say "oh.....I have that"................face palm :pottytrain:
I don't know why manufactures even put books in vehicles......no one reads them it seems. Those books might as well be wiping paper

Yep I ruled out being a pro mechanic long ago. I pity you shop owners.

Pro mechanic.... I was once a pro mechanic, yet for some reason I ALWAYS screw up on my own stuff the 1st time. Apparently I do more of the "good enough" on my own stuff, because I very, very, very rarely had return work when I worked at a shop and can't think of a single time I had to re do something when I worked as a "mobile Marine tech" on my own.

I was on my phone so give me a break. I didn't even have paper to write on, so just getting the answers was more of a challenge.

I always find it stupid when they don't let you have something (calculator, equations) on a test when in any situation in life you'll most likely have one or both

but not always.....I hate math.....I would cheat with a calculator in school. I understood how to get the answer but couldn't do them with out a calculator....there has been times I wish I would of done it all in my head because I didn't have a calculator when I needed one.

I do everything with a calculator, either on a phone or the three I have scattered around in various places. For figuring building materials and such it's almost irreplaceable, since doing the same on paper takes forever.....for me.
Dad could do it in his head,he'd just look at it,and spit the answer out. Not this feller,I can barely remember my birth date much less do complicated BS math in my head.

Last year.... I remembered Mother's day because of ya know, my mom. I somehow forgot that my wife was a mother, she was not happy.

Wife's b-day is 9/11 and our anniversary is 7/4 pretty easy to remember those.
