I plan on pulling my engine around June so it'll be about 6 months minimum

It's almost t-shirt weather here at -11c

No grids here.... and advanced a tooth skipped and then some on a WORN OUT engine.

It starts without being plugged in... even at 0, but it takes some serious cranking when it gets below about 20.

I don't think I have enough vacuum, but I got the valve zip tied open. I noticed it earlier this year that it wasn't opening at all, and until my new-ish heater tubes come in, I just zip tied it open. It blows warm at the vents, but not enough to warm up the cab nice and hot like it used to. I'm gonna try checking the doors in the heater box and see what else I can do to get some heat out of this turd.

Mine always made good heat. It did of course take a while, but it was good

Why? You're just putting more and more nails in that's poor engine's coffin.

Could your heater core be plugged up? Either on the inside or outside? I found all sorts of crap in the box years ago that could obstruct heat flow. Who knows what's on the inside either.

Why no grids? Didn't work....wanted to see if people were right on this "gain more power without grids" non sense... ya, you don't gain power. LOL

RC, I went through that heater core when I rebuilt the truck, it was in excellent shape as it had just 50k on it. There must me a flow issue or something, the fan is blowing, but not as hard as it should be. The possibility of low vaccum might be affecting the internal door operation...

I had to go to the doctor this morning, so I wasn't in a hurry to leave. I shot the side of the truck with my temp gun and it said -14. I took the car. I'm going to get more kerosene this weekend and adjust the fuel in the truck. I dumped in the 5 gallons I got for my salamander last night but still didn't trust it. Another 5 gallons or so should do it. It's supposed to be back around or below 0 here by the end of the week.
Heat wave tomorrow, up to 23!

it was -6℉ according to my cell phone this morning, but my car said it was -13℉ driving to work.

Do you guys have any driving tips for a dually on icy roads? If I drive in 2wd or 4wd the back of the truck is all over the road. Snow covered and icy roads that are flat are no problem. But if I drive on back country roads with deep icy 2 track grooves back of the truck is all over the road. Cars coming at me slow way down and give me more of the road because they see my truck all over the road. They probably think I'm drunk. This is my first year driving a dually in the winter. I always parked the duallys for winter. I just retired my 93 w250 plow truck this winter do to rust, electrical and brakes problems, I only use it now to plow the driveway. If I put a ton of weight in the back of the truck will that help me drive out of the grooves and keep the truck falling back into the grooves? or is this just a dually thing

When I drove mine last winter for the last couple of months, I had an 11.00x20 semi tire filled to the top with cement, had something like 7 bags of the premix stuff, plus 10 bags of 80lb tube sand. Still had some traction issues, mainly on deeper snow it wanted to hop, and the slop it was interesting.

You could always take inboard wheels off and just run 2 wheels outback, if yer scared :D

Throw a thousand pounds in the bed and rock on. This is the first year I've had a 4wd I've always ran a 2wd dually.
