I don't know how a DRW truck behaves in the snow, but I think 1000 lbs is too much. I've ran one winter with no weight (bad, bad idea) and one with a lot of weight and still got stuck.

Maybe it's the bald tires, I don't know

Edit: I saw my buddy's retreads today and they look good. I'll see how they wear for a while and report back.

That's always been the sweet spot on mine. You also have 2 extra these you have to plant. Even in my Duramax I ran 800-1000 pounds in it.

We had/have a d350 cummins mayflower truck that when it had the box on it, it weighed 11k lbs total i believe and it would go through anything. Then we took the box off and now its worthless lol

I looked in town a while ago for Diesel 911. Can't be found  I just wanted to have a stash at the house as well as the farm.

We already had a backhoe gel up and a semi nearly gel up yesterday.

I spent a couple hours yesterday dealing with a 2013 Ford F550 6.7, it ran great for 45 minutes, then went into limp mode, right down the road from the dealership. I got called out to go look at it, operator though it was gelled, I don't thinking it was as it still idled just fine, revved up normally in neutral, then put it in gear...limp mode. Shop said to limp it to the dealer, and the dealership said it was gelled. I don't think so. If it was gelled, wouldn't it have shut down or ran like crap from the git go? How come it ran fine into town and THEN gelled up? Seemed a little fishy to me. Then again, this particular truck was one of the rental units that MidAm recently bought, so who knows what kind or quality of fuel was ran in it before. We have seen algae buildup and lots of water in the trucks that aren't stored and serviced at our facility regularly...

Around here when it hits about mid October all the pumps switch to winter diesel. That's probably the only reason I've never had my trucks gel up. I always lose a few miles per gallon, but they always start. Even down to -40.

The pumps around here say they are "treated" to -10/15, but that's it. I ran this last tank down very low, filled it with non-biodiesel. I usually run 2% biodiesel, but with the latest gel up, I wanted to try standard #2 for a change. I did get some decent fuel mileage, 18.6 mpg, that's with about 100 miles of running in 4wd and the rest with the hubs locked in while running in 2wd.

Crap...........ours are treated to -35 from November through February. And yes, our economy majorly suffers in the winter months. I've seen as much as a 5mpg loss in my rig from winter to summer.

My work 2013 F550 went into limp mode on me a couple weeks ago towing 17K down the 881. Got to do 25 kph for about 20 mins before I found a place to pull over, pile of traffic behind me. It would only rev to 1500 in park. Waited a half hour till the other feller I work with showed up with the other '13 F550, switched the trailer over, and continued on my way. He managed to get 60 kph out of it going back to town unloaded. He got back to town, shut it off, started it again, and it was fine. I thought of trying it before I called for backup, but was worried it wouldn't start again, and being -30C, I didn't feel like freezing. We plugged a diagnostic reader into it later, it showed an overboost code. I never got it to go over 25 psi when I was driving it. I did get 30 psi out of it once after I changed the air filter in it last week, then back to 25 max. I think the computer didn't realize there was extra air available till I floored it once with the new filter, then it recalibrated itself. Btw the airboxes in these F550's like to hold water. Drive thru heavy snowstorms brings snow into the airbox, then park the truck in the shop overnight, and the waffle bottom of the airbox holds the water. Stupid design. So now if I drive thru snowstorms, I gotta pull the airbox apart at the end of the day, dry the filter and clean the box. I like the transmission though, it works great, nicer than an allison imo. Well, so far anyways. Pulling 17K up a 6% grade has it down to 3rd gear and 50 kph. 300 hp and 660 ft lbs isn't enough.

Ike, dump in 10 gallons of Kerosene. I talked to my buddy last night and that's how he mixes it to a tank full and has no problems. I fired my truck up today, a whopping 13 degrees when I started it. The exhaust smelled kind of sharp, it burned my nose a little, must be the kero. I'm going to run out and get another 5 gallons to put in mine, then I won't worry about gelling when the temps drop later in the week.

I was talking to the guy that delivers offroad fuel at work about a month ago, he said they add anti-gel chemicals, then later on, like about now, they cut it with kerosene.

Anyone else notice how taco's hands, in spite working on his greasy truck non stop, always look like he manicures? Must be from all of that lotion he uses at night.
