I hit a dog on New Year's day. There was 8" of snow on the roads and it was dark. He was pretty big. Looked like a Rottwieler. Put a hole in the bumper and busted the air dam, inner fender liner, and engine shield on the bottom (plastic). It didn't seem like such a hard hit at the time, so I didn't even get out to check. I just turned around to see if it killed the dog. He wasn't around, so I went home and discovered the damage. Long story short. After the accident, the engine starts to make some noise, which turns into a hellish noise by the time it makes it to the body shop (three days later). I take the car straight from the body shop to my mechanic and he discovers a cracked oil pan (cast aluminum), fried alternator, and bad a/c compressor clutch.
The insurance adjuster has acted nothing, but unprofessionally and refused to even put the car on the lift and look at it until I threw a fit. I'm now talking to his supervisor who's a little more professional, but just as unsatisfactory. Oh, and I caught the first adjuster in the middle of a couple lies.
After 2 weeks of talking to them, they have finally agreed to fix the oil pan, but refuse to even consider the other two items. Now I know that my situation is a little unusual, but the noises weren't there before the accident and now they are. If it were only one item gone bad, I would say its strictly coincidence, but three is too much by my book.
The weird thing is, I think its just this adjusters office that is trying to screw with me. I had a claim with them several years ago and was treated professionally and fairly.
I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
