Well, today turned out to be halfway decent and the sun was shining. So I Knocked all the old bolts cut off bolts out of the bed and put some new ones in there. I also cleaned the 5 years of accumilated junk out of the cab and found my super racy go fast red shift knob I had thought I lost a long time ago:lol:, yeah I put it on.:metal:

I also looked a little closer at some of the issues I'll have to fix on the bed, I guess I could use the practice at body work since I'm not to good.

A couple pics from today.

I rode in one of those for a lot of miles when I was in highschool. My buddie next door was 2 years older then me so I went to school and work with him for a couple of years til I got my license. We put a 283 and a 350 tranny in his. We had 1 brake if we were lucky, and even had the front A frame bust in 2 from rust. No shocks on the rear, she was bouncy. :D Would bury the 8,000 rpm tach. That little motor would turn, but didn't have alot of power. We didn't care, it was loud, and would spin. 8)

there is nothing better than a screamin 283, My z28 had a 283 with duble hump fulies and a duntov 30-30, had a single plane holley manifold and a spreadbore double pumper 650, I used to eat 302 mustangs for breakfast :D ....love myself some 283

The paint will be satin black like it was back when but I'm gonna do the roof cap a dark slate grey metallic like a 67 would've had 68-72 they painted the whole top of the cab if that makes sense.

The truck needs the usual rockers and corners and theres a few spots in the passenger front fender but all in all its a pretty solid old truck.

283 and 327s will wrap but I'll take a good ol 292 6cylinder

The GMC is the 67 style paint, The green and white 72 is the later style paint.

283 is my favorite engine, the first one i built had 10.5-1 flat tops with an 097 duntov an aluminum intake with a WCFB,
a mallory duel point, doug thorley long tube headers, a super high reving engine.

All you have to do to a 292 to get it to 301 is bore it .060 over. There is nothing really available to stroke a 292 unless you offset grind the crank but the 292 already has plenty of stroke at 4.125.

GOt the 292 set in there on Sunday and got most everything hooked up except the intake and headers and I still have a small transmission conundrum. The SM420 I was planning on using has a cracked case that I noticed as I was about to slide it under the truck. The Tranny I pulled out has been abused heavily and has a real sloppy shifter. I was just gonna swap top covers and go but when I pulled the covers I noticed 1st gear was chewed up pretty good. The transmission with the cracked case is like new inside so I was thinkin I might just swap the internals.

Well got a little more done tonight. Got the tranny in got the intake and headers on after I straightend the header flanges, I forgot how much of a pain in the butt putting the headers and intake on were, the ball stud for the Z bar was also real fun to get in there and bolted up with header tubes everywhere. I also had to adjust the clutch linkage as I used a different style clutch. The clutch I used is a big 12" er and has a lot more pedal stiffness after I got it adjusted right.

Hope fully have it running by this weekend. Still gotta get a few things.

Couple pics

This is the crack in the transmission case I mentioned.

Still gotta get some hose clamps and other stuff but heres a nifty 292 stand
