New here info overload!

Postby Billy Bones » Wed Sep 19, 2012 3:57 pm

Well I have found my new go to forum great site!
So for those who care this is what I will be working on for the years to come.
About 2 years back I bought a 85 F350 4x4 reg cab and pulled the Cummins out of that was put in by a cool old machinist I pulled the motor and sold everything else but the fromt axle. I found a NV4500 , got a Chev 14bolt 4:56 w/Detroit locker, 99 Dodge D60 and my latest purchase is the home for all of it 1962 W200/PowerWagon/Sweptline crew cab an old Air Force rig. I've been getting parts here and there and will be starting on the build soon and look forward to input from everyone. I have an HX35 from a 99 after doing some reading not sure if I'll end up using it but this is where I'm at.

I forgot to mention I have a super duty intercooler I'll be using. I'm still having a hard time finding info for pros and cons about the HX35 vs. H1C I've noticed a bunch of guys running the H1C or one with mods done to it. It's up in the air I guess

Since you're gonna run a stick, I'd go with the HX. It's 12cm housing will be worth any potential little hassles you have bolting it on, let alone the fact that it's a little better on the compressor side as well.

I'm looking for valve cover gaskets. I have seen a couple different colors and haven't found a good idea of quality? Thanks for the help.

Has anyone built there own exhaust manifold? I would really like to make a
Stainless one but I don't know how practical it would be or if it'd work well.

Wow, I missed this one! WELCOME!

My valve cover gaskets are blue and came from a Cummins dealer.

Also, one would bet you could buy the stainless manifold cheaper than building.

Unless you're just making one to look cool I doubt you'll ever need anything better than one of the 3-piece ones. A little porting if you're feeling frisky, but I doubt you'd notice any real performance gain with a custom/expensive one over anything else.

My Cummins VC gaskets are grey, and they haven't leaked a drop since I put them on a few years ago. Even after a cam change and multiple retorques.

You might want to look at the he351cw turbo, very good with a stick aswell.
