Rebuilding front suspension

Postby Remps » Wed Nov 24, 2010 6:26 pm

i decided to just redo the whole front end on the 93, since the lower balljoint popped out on me. So far I've got 4 Napa 4000 lb balljoints, Moog 5716S springs, Bilstein BE5-2514-HO front shocks, and Energy Suspension bushing kits for the strut rods, swaybar, and control arms ordered up. I'm wonderin what kind of spring compressor do I get? Just a garden variety universal piece? I asked the local dodge dealer if I could rent theirs, or just look at it, and they said no. Me and search functions don't get along whatsoever, so if ya'll got any info or pics it'd be awesome.

I just used the floor jack to put the springs in. I had to turn them a little to get them to bottom out in of the top pocket.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

If you are uncomfortable using the floor jack thing, which is how I do it as well, run a piece of chain thru the spring under/over the engine cross member and atach the ends with a shackle. It works to keep it off of you. ;)

Jack the truck up and put jack stands under the frame. Put the floor jack under the lower control arm just high enough to hold it, not lift the truck. knock the lower ball joint loose then slowly lower the jack. reverse the process for install.
