vac pump removal issues

Postby manyholes » Fri Dec 17, 2010 4:31 pm

working on this hydroboost swap myself with an 03-04 gm hydroboost unit, hoses and cooler, problem with powersteering pump, i bought the 2000 dodge pump but cannot get my vac pump to seperate from the powersteering pump, one nut was siezed, ended up cutting the stud off and got the other 3 nuts off. is there a trick to removal of the pump or?? tried penitrating oil, very little heat due to vac being aluminum. this is on my 90 w250 with the dual diaphram pump, i have a newer style vane vac pump with the two bolt flange for pump, but the 2000 pump wont bolt to it.

when trying to separate the pump from vac, i only get movment till the gear bottoms out the vac case, so im guessing that the cogs are siezed together. any help is apreciated.

is there a p/s pump that has hydro boost that will work with newerstyle vac pump, i believe the other vac pump is off a 91 with the 2 bolt flange for p/s pump

thanks alot

If it's a factory 1990 Vac/P.S. pump assembly, they are pressed together.
The 2000 power steering pump is not compatible with the '90 version.

If you can get the other part of the 2000 style pump assembly, I'd do it, otherwise you could plumb pressure and returns using hydraulic fittings and tees on the stock 1990 Power Steering set-up.

You can cut the lower end off.
Find a way to re-support it, if you can, though.
