Skyjacker spring questions

Postby slow_90firebird » Mon Sep 12, 2011 9:50 pm

Hey guys just ordered a pair of skyjacker d200cs springs and bushings for the front of my truck... springs should be here this week, but bushings wont untill next week

But since I was in such a hury to get them ordered I forgot to look at what else I might need. I know I can get new grade 8 bolts from fastenal.

Should I try and find new u-bolts locally or just re-use the old ones? Also, I forgot to ask them (at skyjacker) if I would need degree shims or longer shackle sides... the stock shackle sides are really short and the springs appear to almost hit the frame!

Finally, the shackle bushings in the frame rails... i know they are probably gonna be stuck and need to get burned out. NAPA shows the same part number for those as they show for the stock leaf spring eyes (1/2" bolt) is this correct or is it a different bushing?

Thanks!
[edit] truck is 1993 W250 club cab auto if it matters

In my experience lifting older trucks, I always get new U-bolts. Just plain easier to torch them off and intall new. I have used old ones, but they can be a real PITA, especially if there is any corossion on the threads. Since your truck is a 93, I am pretty sure you have the 5/8" bolts. IIRC the earlier 1st gens had 1/2". I know on RCC there is a guy who makes a sweet set of replacement shackles and mounts, fully greaseable.

Hope this helps

Yeah i just dont have money for his stuff... if I need longer shackle sides I can make them out of plate and drill holes. Thats what I did for my chevy. But if the stock ones will work that saves me alot of drilling and cutting...

I hear ya there, I am always trying to make things work on the cheap, being on a limited budget and all, but like my grandfather always said, "Do it right the first time, you won't have to do it again." FWIW ;)
