I have a hole in my new to me tank from and overzealous cutting wheel... Can you succesfully weld these up with a hot air plastic welder?

I've done it on a chevy tank. I'm less than comfortable with doing it for other folks but for my shop truck it worked out fine. I did it with a plastic welder from harbor freight that had a short life span
