ball joints

Postby skilletky » Fri Nov 04, 2011 10:18 pm

i just put a second set of ball joints in my truck a few months back. after i put them in, i thought i read on here somewhere that the ball joints on the d series are threaded in. are they? the reason i ask, i press mine out and back in. after i put the last set in, the truck drove straight and turned very well, well a few weeks back i noticed a slight pull to the left every now and then, i just thought it was where the road was dipped out. i was on my way to work today and hit a pretty decent bump and the truck started to pull bad to the left. got the shop and checked it out and found that the upper driver side ball joint came out of the control arm from the top. well it wallered out the hole to were it is junk. had to get it home so i knocked it back in and welded the ball joint to the control arm. now i have to fine a new one. when i get a new one i am gonna put a new ball joint in it, do i just press them out and back in or do i thread it out?

They're threaded very lightly and cheap ball joints don't fit well.

Ok. The first set i put in years back were cheap. This time i bought the hd moog ball joints. Anyone else press theirs in and out and have problems?

The upper balljoints thread in Chris and the lower ball joints press in. I believe the upper control arms are all the same D150-D350.

I may have one good one I'll have to dig threw the barn. I'm pretty sure the uppers are all the same.
