Dual calipers on front disk brakes

Postby Begle1 » Mon Oct 01, 2007 8:39 am

Anybody know of a way to mount dual calipers on the front disks?

In diesel power on a two wheel drive truck for some diesel max speed record they converted it to 5 or 6 lugs and then put some big BAER brakes and calipers on it and also that was the only way they could get speed rated tires and rims.

You will have to do some fabricating, but it should be do-able by using Chevy calipers and backing plates off a 73-87 model Chevy 3/4-ton.

If you have a Dana-60 front axle, you can even find GM trucks that used the Dana-60, thus the single caliper backing plate from the Chevy will fit the Dodge axle, leaving only the addition of the second caliper portion to be welded on.

The design of the Dodge and Ford calipers do not lend themselves to alteration as easily as the GM design.

I have recently had the same thoughts, except I would be mounting them on my 1985 F-350.

I'm almost positive Dodge and GM Dana 60's have the same calipers.

The idea was for a front-only brakes; a seperate master cylinder and calipers would be the totally bulletproof way of doing it.

It's coming out to be too much fab work to be worth it as opposed to a line lock, though.
