Brake booster

Postby m880cummins » Fri Jan 06, 2012 8:14 pm

Hi Everyone,

Need your input on this issue. I have had problems with the power brakes on my truck since I put it together. Replaced the vacuum pumps in august because the old ones were pulling 2 inches and now it pulls 20-22 at idle. Installed a vacuum reserve canister on the inside of the fender and plumbed it with good quality dayco vacuum hose and fuel injection clamps. It is SEALED!....until we get to the booster. In the morning when the engine is cold the brakes are super strong and you can use one toe to bring the truck to a halt but after a couple break actions during the way to school they become very firm and hard to push. When cold, I hear a hissing noise coming from the booster and it doesn't do this when cold. Is the booster shot? I am thinking it is. The booster is 1977.

I have also heard that rebuilt ones are crap?!?! I work at a mom and pop auto parts store and get stuff at cost (great for a DIY guy like me who built a truck with tons of new sh**) An A1 Cardone booster runs me $61.00 and I am tempted to get it.

OR does anyone have a pretty fresh one off a donor truck or something? If it still has a part number I will buy it.

ALSO, I did open one of these boosters up in my shop and may take pics just for a laugh. They look pretty cool inside.

Thanks

Charlie
