Tire Size Question

Postby slow_90firebird » Fri Aug 26, 2011 7:17 pm

Ok Gotta order 4 new skins for the dodge... popped one the other day and need 4 anyhow.

First off, I need to keep the stock rims. They are 16x6.

Now, I wanted to go up to a 255/85/16, BUT, i think they will rub the mudflaps and plastic fender flares. I cant afford the new front springs just yet.

So I was looking at some various 235/85/16, what I have now, but they are soooo damn skinny.

Looking online I figured I can get 265/75/16, which is identical height to the 235/85, but 1.5" wider. Now my question is, they are approoved for a 7-8" wheel. Has anyone tried them on a stock 6" steel wheel?

Also, anyone have pics of some agressive stock size 235 tires?

I really liked the 255's on IrishChamp's truck but looking at his pics I cant see how they would not rub on mine with the fender flares...

I have 33x12.5x17's. Unless I am flexing, they don't rub.

Yes, stock 16x6 on mine still. I also have 285s on 18x10 and they rub on the back of the wheel well, but it just that they rub.

OK cool thanks guys... i might still end up getting the stock 235's again, i was looking around and realized how much more the wider sizes cost.

I can probably save quite a bit of money getting the 235's

The 235's look so good. Plus you can get Yokohama at/s from discount tire for $127 shipped. To get that price you show them at tire rack has it for less and then they will respond that tire rack price doesn't include shipping and then they'll lower the price anyway!

I run a pair of 9.00R16s on the front of my W250. The springs are sagged. They just kiss the fenders on the front edge which I have rolled in a little. I have also run 35x12.50 on Ford 16x7 steels. They cleared the fenders entirely, but rubbed the pitman arm a LOT on right turns. (Thats why I switched to the 9.00R16 skinnies.)

This winter the truck gets 255/85R16s. Probably Toyo M55. I have not doubts they will fit. I have run that size before (on other trucks) on 6" wheels and they fit/wear just fine.

Ok well I got my new tires on! I also took the opportunity to rattlecan paint the stock wheels... I pulled the caps and trim rings off and the steel wheels looked like hell underneath. I used a green (kitchen) scotchbrite and water with dishsoap to get off and brakedust and loose rust. Rinsed with the hose and let air dry. Hit them with 3 coats of rustoleum professional...

The tires are 235/85/16 Goodyear Duratracs from tire rack. They ride a little less bouncy, but the grab the road real hard which kinda gives the steering a mind of its own. I didnt touch the alignment.

Let me know if you like the looks better with or without the hubcaps and rings... and also if anyone has experienced touchy steering after installing more agressive tires?
