Broke cruise control...

Postby slow_90firebird » Sat Mar 03, 2012 8:28 pm

Just today I noticed that my cruise control is inop now...

I am 100% sure it happened from me doing the steering box. I looked under the hood and all looks in order there. I didnt reseal the vacuum pump yet for the oil leak, but it still is currently making vacuum because the brakes and heater work fine.

I am 90% sure that my problem lies within the steering wheel. In my rush to try and get the steering shaft on the box, line up the splines so that the roll pin would go in, I think I may have turned the wheel too many times one direction.

Does anybody know how the switches on my 1993 wheel work? Is there a wire that twists when you turn the wheel? Truck is a 1993.

This is the steering wheel I have:

Sounds like you broke the clockspring. Lemme guess the horn doesn't work now either.

Actually horn still works fine...

I kinda guessed it was the "clockspring" after doing some research. Also kinda figured if its as expensive as I read online, probably wont get fixed right away...

You may be able to repair it. I tore mine apart and saw 4 of the flat wires came out of the mounting area. I think they could be soldered back. I'm going to put some switches in the dash instead.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
