power steering problem on 92 W250

Postby winkgnz » Sun Dec 12, 2010 3:38 pm

I just recently replaced the powersteering pump on my 92 W250, and ever since then it keeps pushing the fluid out of the cap. I have bled the pressure line, and even let it run for an extended period of time (about an hour) with out the cap to cirulate the fluid, and hopefully let any air escape. I have even tried turning the wheels back and forth with the cap off, watching the fluid, and it seems extremely foamy. It is the same cap as the old one (never had the problem with the old pump doing this) since the replacement did not come with one. I'm out of ideas... you guys have any?

When my truck was brandy new it did this. My cousin checked into getting it fixed and it was about $800. I'm not sure what was involved. We ended up putting a radiator hose on it to extend it up, no more leaks! 8)

Now that I own it, I added a piece of hydraulic suction hose and a pipe nipple, with a cap. It's about 6" above the pump top, and looks a lot nicer.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Are you bottoming the steering wheel when turning? I find that works best. There might be a stuck valve in the high pressure fitting as well.
