This was my go to article when I did mine.

I got the bushings off of the site listed in the article, but throw something about Dana 60 kingpin rebuild parts in google and you'll find all kinds.

Can someone please explain to me how front u joints can affect steering? The only thing that is spinning in 2wd are the hubs rotors wheels and tires no u joints or axles or shafts. My truck did the same exact thing he is describing except my tires wore extremely wierd like one lug new and one worn out. but I have not had it on the road since frame off rebuild but so far I have put on a reman steering box mine seemed to have excessive play, I also made a steering shaft with real U joints and plan on bracing the box next. if that doesnt work kingpins are my next plan.

While it's probably not the only scenario, a binding u-joint can be forced to swivel by the steering wheel, but once allowed to return-to-center under it's own power, like it should, the binding would prevent it from happening. Much like the OP's, and your own, problem.

It doesn't have to be turning to cause this, and not turning could actually make it worse since it would keep the bound-up spot in the same place.

Hey IrishChamp,
How are you doing with this problem. Have you changed the Axle U-joints yet? And if you have did it fix the problem?
I kind of am having the same problem......

Purchased parts today. Forgot to consider a kingpin rebuild kit, don't know if it's advised or not.
