DRW with new tires sways and squirrelly

Postby 1STGENFARMBOY » Fri May 13, 2011 3:57 pm

I just got done with my dually conversion and put on a set of 235/85/16 yokohama geolander A/T's with very deep soft tread,
i have to fight to keep my truck strait now, kinda feels like i'm hauling a half a tank of water thats sloshin around in the bed.

I have had a couple guys say it's probly the soft deep tread squishin around, and my cousin has this happin when he puts
new A/T's on there fleat of F450's.

whats your take on it.

Most likely the tread. How much air pressure are you running? We've had that problem on the front of a few dodge 4500's with aggressive tires if the tire pressure is to high.

I dealt with that on my 01 and it got better the more miles I got on the tires. Tread was really deep and a soft compound. Actually a few big smokey burnouts helped them out a great deal. It was almost impossible to pull a loaded trailer when they were new.

I'll put money up on its the tires. My truck will do it with tall tread and it sucks :x

Thanks guys for confirming my problem, well looks like some big dually burnouts, 8) 8) 8) , i'm always
up for any reason to burn away $635.00 worth of tires,

I think i will drive it for a couple months and if don't get any better i will burn off some tread.

The whole reason i did this stupid conversion was to make my truck more stable hauling my
big supper heavy truck camper, so i could relax on our trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but i
have made it 10x worse.

this sucks.

Dar, buddy of mine with an '08 just put on new tires and has the same problem. He had 60psi in his, I told him to lower it and see what happens. I'll have to suggest the burnout to himas an option. I think I'll call, I don't want to be standing there and tell him to burn off $900 worth of tires.

I always ran cheap tires so it didn't hurt so bad. Use to get them for $80 a piece for the dually. I always thought that was part of my problem but guess not.

Remember, you have enough rubber on your back axle to goal alll the way around a SRW truck. Might not make for as good of pictures, but you can probably just sell them to someone.

Taco i'm not gettin your point ...i'm a little slow, can you explain like i'm in second grade.

if i would have known there was a chance of somethiong like this going on i would have gottin a little shorter and harder
tire, he!! i thought i was doing good gettin a softer tire for the stiff ride.

There are plenty of 1 ton trucks pushing 16,000 pounds when the bed is loaded. With your camper and truck you should be no more then 12 or 13. Thats all we ever ran was 16 inch rubber. My newest has 17's but not by choice. The 16's won't fit.
