No CV on front driveshaft

Postby ahale2772 » Mon Oct 10, 2011 10:19 am

Im planning on making a 1410 front driveshaft, with no CV joint.

ive got both 1410 yokes worked out im just wondering what everyone's opinion is on running without a CV

is the issue mainly from angle? my truck has about 2 inches of lift over stock up front (i could barely turn 33's and hacked the fenders to fit 37's)

anyways... the jump from a 1300 style joint to 1400 will ne me greater angle capability correct? I though I read somewhere that it was about an 8 degree difference.

I saw that a member (meiser) had done it and said he had no issues with it

i'll be shortening a rear driveshaft on the lathe and im aware that I may need to clearance the crossmember.

any advice pro/con welcome

I had a non cv style on a chevy with a 205 and a granny stick. That truck was stock height though. At some point the original owner found a shaft and yoke that would work. I never had any ill issues.

cool, im just worried about those times where its snowing bad and you need 4wd to get down the road, the driveshaft will probably never see more than 45mph, if that. I hope it stays together

made one!

32 spline 1410 yoke from the rear output of an np205 (you will need the larger rear output seal), 1410 yoke from a d70 on the pinion of the d60

cut a stock rear driveshaft down (i can get a measurement if anyone needs it) got her straight on the lathe and welded her up.

clearance is very good, lifted the front of the truck and let the trcuk sag, got about 6 inches before the greese fitting on the slipjoint threatned to hit the transmission crossmember.

drove around in front wheel drive, didnt feel any vibrations up to about 40mph
VERY WEIRD how the truck drives in FWD
