Steering issue

Postby JustinRhodes » Tue Oct 18, 2011 5:08 pm

So my steering wheel used to be real easy to turn. Few days back it started getting a little harder to turn the wheel then it would start turning real easy again. now its harder to turn the wheel all the time. its still not very hard to turn the wheel but noticeably more than before. First thing i did was check power steering fluid, full. The steering gearbox is new aswell. Any ideas of what it may be?

There is some valving under the hex headed pressure port on your pump that may be stuck. Its not unheard of for them to stick after a failure of another part in the system sends back dirty fluid.
If you want to check it, take the pressure line out of the pump and then unscrew the fitting. It should have spring tension on the fitting making t difficult to spin out with your fingers( when the valve under it is not stuck). If its stuck in take a small screw driver and push against the valve and it should go in a small amount and free up. There is a large spring behind It that will push it out.
