I hate to say it, find a whole frame, or scrap it. Since you said your truck has some history, I'd try to find a decent frame, I'd sell ya my 8" frame, but it won't be available for at least a year. You could get a whole rear section off a gasser, Z cut it from the cab back and splice it in, with some fish plates. Clear as mud? ;)

Try to get some structural integrity back, even if you have to use some C channel or L shaped stock to reinforce what you got...

If it's the whole rear I'd replace it from the cab back too. The Z cut is stronger than a straight cut, and a Z isn't really accurate. Cut down 1/2 way, then cut back 6-8 inches, then down the rest of the way. Don't you know anybody that's a decent mechanic in your area? Maybe ask that guy that owns the garage you work in, I'm sure he knows as much as we do! ;)

He wants me to just buy a ram charger and swap it to that. I will admit that a Cummins ram charger would be cool, but I want to keep my standard cab long box truck. Im thinking that down the road in the next couple years, a late model 1st gen with the newer grill and newer LE trim package will be in order. I would like to get into some body work so maybe I can just do a frame up restoration and paint it the same paint scheme as the truck I have now. And then not tell gramps its a different truck.
