drag racing the getrag

Postby rollieD250 » Fri Feb 12, 2016 8:28 pm

only got to put 200 miles on my truck after i finished the body on it before winter, but in the spring i will add a 62SXE and 5x14's...and then hit the track.

i have hit the track 4 or 5 times in my 2nd gen nv4500 truck, launching in 3rd and it has held up....so far

what kind of luck are you guys having drag racing the getrag with 400ish hp? id like it to survive a little while anyway haha

I'll be finding that out as well this summer now that my 1st gen runs again with my compounds, and I'll be sticking some honed 5x16's. I think I'll swap my secondary from the hybrid wh1c/hx40 to a 62sxe at some point. My dilemma is going with a .7 gated housing or a .63 single scroll non gated housing, and add an e-gate to the manifold. Even with totally killing the twin scroll effect on my secondary response is much better than the silver bullet 62 I pulled off

I have ddp stage 3's in for right now. I'll be switching to a set of 5x16's I got from Eric as soon as I can get the bodies swapped. I also have a 188/220 cam I'm thinking about putting in.

It sat on a dyno for a few minutes a couple years ago, but was sucking air into the fuel system, and couldn't make a run. Since then I added a sump, dual filters, completely bypassing the stock feed side, and swapped from a 62/74/.8 single to a 60/67 compound setup that spools a lot faster. Now I just need studs, a clutch, and to do all the little things I want to get done.

I ran my 'rag a couple of times at the strip, I've got 3.07s and 35s so there wasn't any starting in 3rd for me. The 2nd to 3rd shift was a killer, huge ratio change and a tough shift to make in the first place. If you've got the gear/weight to take off in 3rd I'd say it would benefit you greatly.

I have 4.10's and 30" tires   so 3rd gear will be no big deal. Im going to try and swap to 3.55 before the summer

Taco you haul balls

Rollie we're in the same boat, I couldn't even hit 40 in 3rd before I swapped gov springs, and 76 mph top out was pretty embarrassing......
