NP205 Input shaft

Postby LEADFOOT93 » Thu Aug 30, 2007 10:07 pm

I was thinking about putting an nv4500 in my 93 auto. I was wondering if the input shaft could just be swapped out since the splines are different, or is it not that easy?

Absolutely not. In short, get the 29 spline 205 t-case from a getrag truck.

The 23 spline case will require machine work to fit the bigger input shaft and bearing. Oh yeah, you'll need to gut the case prior to machining it and the front bearing retainer.

Thanks a lot for the help. So your also saying the 29 spline shaft not only has more splines, but it's also bigger?

the 4x4 getrag has 1 3/8" 35 spline output, that won't work either.

There are two kinds of married NP205s. Small bore and large bore. If I'm understanding him correctly the 23 spline 205 is a small bore case. I know the 29 spline 205 behind a Getrag is a large bore because I just rebuilt mine. When you order a rebuild kit for a 205 they ask you small bore or large bore. The input bearing on the large bore is like 1/4-1/2 larger than the small bore I think.

pay no attention to the drooling idiot posting under this user name above, he obviously hadn't had his coffee yet.
