getrag w/97 motor

Postby polarexpress » Wed Sep 05, 2007 11:55 am

Hey y'all....new to this forum....been on dtr for awhile. Quick question. Has anyone put a getrag behind a ppumped motor. i have a 97 motor that I am putting in my truck...and i wondered how well it would match up with the getrag. i know many dislike the getrag, but I have heard too much about its quality to discount it. Plus, it would be cheaper, theoretically. So, any input? thanks. polarexpress

It will bolt right up. You'll need to put the 1st gen bellhousing adapter on the '97 motor.

There are a ton of people who put NV4500s behind first gen engines, this sure is a first.

Thanks wanna...you've been fielding my questions like an idiots guide, i appreciate it. I realize this is a first, but I like the getrag....my truck has 210k and my brothers has over 300k with the original getrag, works like a charm. I read several articles, including an article by terry (elders?) who described, at length, the quality of the getrag over the nv4500. I hope to build my current getrag to withstand a beating, and I think it will hold up well if serviced and driven properly. Another question, where would I find, say, billet shafts, ect...for the getrag? polarexpress.

I dont know of any upgraded stuff for the Getrag, though I'm sure someone somewhere would be willing to make it for enough money.

I think the Getrag got a bad rap when the factory set it up too tight for a batch, and the replacements then went out. The NV4500 isnt as stout as the Getrag, IMO. I have dirven a few, and am not impressed with them.
