If I was going to rebuild my 518, I would upgrade it to at least a 47rh to get a lock up convertor. I currently have a 518 in my crew that has a "diesel" convertor that feels really tight when you are trying to sit at a stop light and feels really good until about 40 mph. After that it feels like I can drive through the convetor at will.
Take everything I say with a grain of salt. I use my pickups to pull heavy loads, and prefer rowing my own gears. The 518 will not stay forever in my crew.
