205 question

Postby txs » Wed Feb 20, 2013 7:44 am

I got under my truck to check the tranny fluid, last year i changed out the coupler between the tranny and the transfer case for one that is machined so I could run a rear seal in the nv5600. That part was good, tranny still full, so hardly any leaks out around the splines themselves. While under there I grabbed the front driveshaft for a wiggle, the four bolts holding the transfer case end of the driveshaft have worked loose before, I believe these trucks would vibrate the balls off a brass monkey. I found some play but the bolts were tight, the yoke in the front of the tc is a little loose, I don't remember it being that way, anyone know what the bearing look like behind the front yoke on a 205? Are they tapered rollers, or some other arrangement?

They are ball type roller bearings. There will be a little in and out play with them.

There should be virtually no up and down play, if there is, eventually the seal will leak.

i've personally seen 3-4 of those bearings with slop in them. In my 205 i noticed that the front output bearing only had 6 or 7 ball bearings in it whereas the the same size bearing on the rear output has 3 or 4 more. just built a little cheaper IMO since it doesn't get used as much
