so i did a getrag swap about 3 weeks ago. I installed a valair dual disc clutch. i finally got to start driving the truck at the beginning of this week. When i shift to 3rd gear it grinds and won't let me shift until the rpms are way down.
Ive heard a few things. that its a weak slave cylinder and i need a heavy duty one. that its a top cover issue which hasnt been explained to me yet. or its a syncro which i hope its not. so here are my options.
before i tell you that. im building this truck to be bullet proof, strong, and can tow and haul alot. dont care about speed.
1. so the guy that sold me the tranny said that he has another tranny he can trade me but he doesn't know that history but the previous owner said it was fine. the engine in that truck was blown so he couldn't test it. so i can put that one in and see if that works.
2.im gonna order a valair heavy duty master and slave cylinder to see if that helps. plus i heard its must have with these heavy duty clutches.
3. a guy in New Hampshire said he'd sell me a NV4500 rebuilt with no core return needed for $1450. then i could sell my getrag which idk what you can get for them with a bad syncro. its only got 124k miles on it. but is there alot id have to do to accompany an nv4500. my trucks a 4x4 and i have the np205 tcase too. ive heard you can just flip them over to fit on the nv4500 but what do you do about the front drive shaft?
4. Or if you think the getrag is better for towing and everything. If that other tranny isnt good then a diesel shop said they'd rebuilding it out of the truck for $1000 or have to take out the tranny themselves for $1500.
what do you think i should do? what would be the best cost to benefit ratio?
any info is greatly appreciated thanks a lot.
