Gotta be careful how far you let the front end go up in the air. The further the front end goes up, the lower your hitch goes, and then you loose the downward pull or advantage on the sled, that keeps the tires hooked to the track. We've got a group that runs SW Iowa with a bunch of 2wd pulling trucks, stock, modified and open, all street tires, and basically blocked 68-72 chevy trucks. For a few years a buddy of mine ran a 2wd CTD and was very competitive.
