Dont blame you on not wanting a body lift, I think they look ugly as all hell, but its a quik and easy way to get clearance.
If I had to choose between body mods or splicing the frame, id splice the frame. Biggest thing is to make sure its square and level when your done, no twists or "dog legging". Last one I helped with was a good weekend, but we weren't in a hurry, alot of beer was drank, setup was the longest part.
Just make sure you prep your joints, put some sort of Z into your frame when you splice it, and fishplate the joint when your done, and should work out fine
