Newer model towing mirrors

Postby cumminsgirl » Tue Jan 31, 2012 9:39 pm

So I've been thinking about how much I already miss my towing mirrors on my 03..and I have seen a couple pictures on first gens with the newer mirrors in place of the originals and I guess my question is, Do you think this takes away from look of the truck? I've had several people tell me they wouldn't be caught dead with those on their older trucks.

To each thier own in this case.

I made do with the stock little mirrors. Some people have flipped the "L" bracket on the stockers so the mirror head sitck out further, while some just go ahead and remove them to go with a good set of towing mirrors. I have also seen pictures of the 2nd/3rd gen towing mirrors on 1st gens, I am personnaly not a fan, but if they work for one person, they might work in your case. I have seen threads on how to do them, they take up space for the wing windows, and I use mine, and in my case I don't want to take away from that. My $0.02 ;)

Theyre nice but dont look right on out old trucks. cipa makes a mirror that looks factory but telescopes out for towing. i had them on my crew and liked them. Pn is cipa 95150.

Thanks. I usually know exactly what I want but in this case I really don't. One huge downfall I agree with is I couldn't use those windows anymore.

I tell ya what, since my a/c don't work, having those things functional helps out in the summer. I use to live in Seymore TN, I know all too well how hot and muggy it gets down there...

ive been wanting to just extend the original style mirrors, just weld in another piece of that 3/4 (or whatever size it is) tubing, and give them like 4 more inches.

HMMMM .... idea.... maybe I can make them teloscopic somehow....hmmmm

That would be really neat if there was a way to make them telescoping, I'd be game for a set of those! :D

Biggest PITA would be to try and make the teloscoping part stay in place, so the mirror dosnt go out of adjustment

I like the look of the old mirrors, but those "segull slappers" really truly do give you advantage with any trailer

Seagull slappers! Never heard that one before!

The only thing I got against those is without being used a lot, swinging them in and out, they get siezed and what not, and if you bump into something with them, there they go, along with denting the door. I wouldn't put them on either, but if the truck came with them, then its ok. I don't like drilling holes in stuff, but if its a dedicated towing truck, then I would suppose its ok.

Again..to each their own ;)

My air works..my heat on the other hand does not. But like you said.. the heat down here out ways the cold a lot. I can layer up. This past summer the dash in the 03 split in five places. Cracking the windows and parking in the shade just didn't help. I think ill keep my side windows just as they are for now lol

The heat is an easier fix, there's not much that can go wrong with it

^X2. As long as there is coolant flowing through the heater core and proper air flow through it, there isn't much to it

check for junk in the trap doors. I flushed my heatercore for the first time in 300K miles, and it was clean as a wistle, trap door was the culprit

I like the mirrors, I wonder if they are 30$ for one...or two
