Gasser Cab on a Diesel

Postby jmos4 » Mon Jan 18, 2016 6:37 pm

Hi all,

I've got a 86 W150 cab to swap out on a 89 W250 and wanted to know are there any extra holes I will need to drill in the firewall for the swap, as I'm trying to get as much of the body work/ paint done before I tear the 89 apart and want don't want to have to drill into a freshly painted firewall.

Regards,

They are both W trucks so no problems on the hump. Check where the main harness goes thru the firewall. If you have a manual you may have a problem. I put an 86 cab on my 92 and had to cut out the firewall from the 92 and graft it into the 86 because the master cylinder for the clutch would have been 1/2 in the wire bulkhead. The cab was from a D250 auto and mine was a D350 stick, but I think auto or stick shouldn't have mattered.

Hi,

You wouldn't have a few pictures to share would you, as it will be some time before I take the truck apart

I do! They weren't posted in my cab swap thread, they were in somebody elses thread. I put them in my thread, and will post them here for you. The last pic shows the difference as both pieces I cut out are close and you can see the differences. When I cut, I split the difference on the steering column mount, so when I welded the panel back in I welded the cab, mount, and the panel together for strength.

For some reason it double posted, so I deleted it.

No problem, it's always easier to not find things out the hard way!

I just figured out why the cab is like that too! In '86 the clutch was not hydraulic, the rod went thru where that oval plate is under the steering column! That bothered me for a long time, how they did the clutch back then. ;)
