Well thanks to Chris I got a condenser today. Pulled vacuum for an hour at 30. Left it sit for 20 minutes it dropped to 25 and stayed there for an hour and a half. Filled the system with 6 ounces of pag 100 oil with dye then 2 pounds of R134A. Its not working as it should and I can't figure it out.

This is the chart I was going by. Its 80 outside when I charged it. This was after I had to hotwire the compressor to make it work. New expansion valve, sensor in valve, drier and flushed entire system. Any ideas?

Just got home and checked it again. Its 75 outside and the truck was cooling down to 59. Here is the pressure.

Im assuming on MAX AC and fan on HI right?

Is the compressor kicking on and off or just staying on?

My money is on a pos exp valve, aftermarket are horrible.
Have you drivin it running the system yet?

Wet the condenser when idling and see if the air gets colder, and watch the pressures.

Max ac with the fan on high. The compressor won't come on unless I hot wire it. I drove it home and that last picture was of the pressures after getting home. What controls power through the ac system?

Ran it all the way home but wouldn't cool below 70. Pulled in drive and checked pressures again. Low side was 32 and high side was 235. So is there anything you can do to the expansion valve to try and help pressures? Any other vehicle that shares the same expansion valve I could find in the junkyard?

Don't know Andy.

It took 3 Murry exp valves before I got a good one....FWIW.

Compressor works was the brand I believe. I was wondering if maybe I didn't pull vacuum enough before charging? I pulled for 20 minutes and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then I pulled it for an hour. The box is cold to the touch and the expansion valve is cold. Did you have to replace the drier every time too?

Andy, I think I have one or two expansion valves that are older ones. I have no idea if they work, but they aren't the new ones that seem to never work. Let me know if you are interested.

Just once,as long as you don't have it open to outside air for more than a few days it will be fine.

Vacuuming the system is just to remove the air and moisture from it. If your fooling with an old system then you'd do it a long time(especially if you've had it open to atmosphere for a while) to dry out the system and the desiccant bag in the dryer/accumulator.
If I install a new dryer with the rest of the system I generally don't pull a vacuum for so long. Really I let it drag down to 28 or30 and stop, letting it sit to check for leaks for a few min, then charge the system. All that sitting and waiting stuff cost me money so I tend to just get it done ASAP.

Okay I just didn't want to have to keep buying driers since they have to be ordered.
