Well I went out to move the Duck the other night and she won't budge. I don't know if the hydro oil had thickened up that much even though its a quart low or the 518 just gave up. I figure I'll have about a grand rebuilding it.

I'm at 100% hydro oil and I don't have any issues. RIP poor 518.

Who's parts are you going to use?

Do you have a magnet heater you could stick to the trans pan? Did you let it run in neutral for a while to circulate the fluid?

Yeah I let her run in neutral for about 10 minutes. Caleb I think I'm going to use a Transfer master kit, trans go shift kit and a Spec rite Tq convertor. Ill probably upgrade to the Sonnax Billet Aluminum 4 Ring Accumulator Piston, Sonnax 16% Oversize Intermediate Servo with Cover and the Power Wedge Intermediate Band Anchor and 4.2 apply lever. Has anyone ran the Fairbanks shift kit?

No she won't even try to move. I pulled it up the driveway with the Ford then rolled it over by the house. I'll mess with it when its not raining and freezing out.

Andy, have you ever seen the Sonnax book? I have one, don't remember where I got it. It has all the fixes and part numbers for almost any trans out there, loose and worn bores, a reamer and oversized spools to fit, different springs, bands or what ever else may be wrong with it. Pretty handy to be able to look and see the common problems and what the fix for it is. And have the part numbers for the better parts and tools if needed.

No but I saw the son ax fix kit or whatever its called on Patc I believe. It was like $150 and fixes all the issues it said. I'm thinking she is really low on fluid judging by the puddle under it. No matter what it needs fixed. The sop trip took its toll on her.

If you don't have a rebuild manual, I have an ASTG book that I could loan you.

I have one floating around here someplace. I had a DVD of a rebuild somewhere too but who knows where that went.

So went out and started her today. Let it idle in neutral and she moved its just really low on fluid.

Good to hear that it's not completely toast.

So Im back to driving the Duck. I patched up my u-joint and stopped today to have a new shaft made. I think I'm getting the shaft too since they quoted me around $400 for that little driveshaft.

Mother of god......those folks command a price don't they. I've never paid that much for that short of a shaft.
