Ya me too!

You mentioned in another thread about making a cross-member that sits 2" lower and 1" back. You wouldn't happen to have any dimensions or know where to find them would you? I've searched but come up empty.

I am trying to remember who told me...

I was going to do a 2wd Suburban of that vintage. I had the engine 1 finger-width (1/2" or so) from the firewall, had the core support cut out slightly for the 1st Gen radiator, and the stock mechanical fan was 1/2" from the radiator.

Thats good to know! I was thinking I was going to have to run a electric fan which I still may later I am going to do it right and not cobble it together but I want to spend as little money as I have to.

I got my 6" skyjacker softride springs and poly body mounts today!

I'll be in South Carolina all next week and when I get back from that I'm going to hit it hard and try to have the truck driving by may. I'll pretty much just be able to work on it on the weekends.. :x

First thing I'm doing when I get back is tearing down the Chevy to the frame and putting the heavier axles and new springs under it. Then boxing the frame and making the cross-member and getting it all painted up. That'll be a entire weekend project.. Unfortunately I dont have a shop or welder so I'll be dragging it back and forth to work on the weekends..

I cant wait to get started..and finished!

Still looking for a nv4500/np205 if anyone knows where one is.

One thing I haven't thought much about but its fairly important.. Is the fuel system. I have a 60 gallon fuel tank tool box combo that is going in the bed and I'm debating just using it and getting rid of the saddle tank. But then I wont have a gauge in the cab just the one made in the tank.. so idk. I may use it as a nurse tank to the stock tank too.

Will a holley blue fuel pump be good? It flows 110gph at 14 psi max and it has 3/8 fittings in and out.

Dar you sure its 4160? I am coming up empty on it. I found a 4601 tho.

Do you think I need an electric fuel pump at all?

Well, it was past his bedtime and he gets a little dyslexic every now and then, so 4601 may be it. You don't need an electric one, a piston pump will work good too.

Don't use a holley blue, they won't hold up in diesel.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

If your gonna crank up the HP your gonna need to up-grade the fuel system with something, idealy a 2nd gen
piston lift pump and a regulator is probly one of the most reliable.

the best performance pump would be an aeromotive A1000 with regulator, but there kinda pricey @ a dab under
$500.00

AH ! ! ! Peter Bartholomew Toombs is corect

4601= 100gph @ 18psi.

my holly black finally did bite the dust, but only because the brushes wore out, i'm fixen to put in
a new set and put it back on the truck.

is it ideal.....probly not ...but it works well if you can stand the noise.

Well I finally jumped in feet first and started the swap..

Got the axle out.

It sits 4" higher than it did. I'm hoping the weight of the cummins will squat it down a bit.

Looks better without the tanks hanging down. I still have to get the 14bolt in it but my rear springs are still backordered. They should be here around the 20th...

This will be its home for a while. Its a friends garage about 30 minutes from me, beats working outside though!

I'm pulling the motor out of the dodge tonight and hopefully have it in tomorrow night or the next. I have to get some measurements to fab the motor mounts.

Holy sthi, you weren't kidding about jumping in feet first. I saw the first pic and expected to see an engine hoist grabbing the gasser out.

It's cool to see someone going all-out like that. I wish I had the patience to do it, but after a few months I just have to drive it again and I start short-cutting things to get it back together...
