Dirtfloorfab's DEM suburban/pickup conversion and 12v swap

Postby bighroder » Sat Sep 01, 2012 4:47 am

Well I had an 86 suburban the roller was from arizona so it was real clean I bought it for 1200 an
d it looked like this

After a bunch of time working on it and some parts off the parts truck the back half looks like

from the front

I'm also doing a tilt front end (I'm a diesel mechanic, just a personal touch) I'm also lifting the nose of the hood, (think 01 and 02 chevy duramax hood) and with any kind of luck I'll have my ve pump 12v at the house by tuesday

The truck has 14 bolt, dana 60 front not installed yet, getting 205 nv4500 I'm sure I'll have questions about tuning the ve I've only worked with p pump and newer so itll take a min to learn

Thanks for the compliment guys I'm gunna be running military bias 36's(whats on the rear axle) I wanted 373 but it has 410s right now il see how it works then regear as necessary

Heres some big questions I have, my donor motor is an 89 I plan to swap injectors tune the pump maybe a small set of compounds water to air intercooler and water methanol injection, are there any other things I should be looking at? Am I crazy to expect 400 horse from a setup like this? For that type of hp would it still be reliable? I really dont want to go 14mm pump and I dont want to lose all my mileage.
Also whats a good injector that would be efficient with my power goals? I was looking at scheid s +40hp set but they are a little pricey I just dont want to throw pods on and lose all my mileage

Pods are just a tiny bit bigger than your current injectors if they are stock. Your stock injectors are the biggest that ever came in a 12v. ;)

5x14-5x16s is a good injector. Places like Cummins Performance Parts (Hamilton Cams is using them and Weston has said he has sent them injectors after the SDX fiasco), DDP just to name a couple.

With the right mods, 400hp is very possible.

Do you think 400 is achievable with stock injectors tho? I knew they were big to begin with but I didnt figure stockers would get me there.

I'd doubt you can hit 400 reliabily with stock injectors. 3-350, maybe

Are they leaking around the beads? If so, break them down, coat them with vaseline, and reinflate. Done deal.
I had to do that on an Astrovan the wife had and they never leaked again.

No I don't think it's on the bead they ate just cheap roller tires I bought for 50 bucks they are 36's so I can't expect much they are pretty dry rotted I just wanted mock up tires
