I have to agree with you on the ease of drivetrain setup without the cab on but with me lacking a trans, I'm just trying to assemble as much as I can. I'll probably end up stabbing the entire engine/trans/tcase all in one piece.

As for the bottom of the cab, I wanted a factory look. I sprayed 2 coats of epoxy primer, then used undercoating and seam sealer on all panel joints, then gave it another coat.

Told you what you could do the other day on the phone. :P
Ellis' idea is similar, because you're still gonna' have to at least swap the mainshaft and extension housing plus, on a Chevy or Dodge GAS tranny, you'll need to do the input and bearing retainer, as well.

BTW, if you "luck" into a Chevy one, hope like hell it's not the pre-1996 one, because they require case machining to put the Dodge input and retainer into them.
They are also the wrong ratio for the Dodge input, which means you'd need the cluster (countershaft ) gear.
Hell, I even think the rest of the ratios on them are off, too.

So, a minimum of $350 in internal parts not including a bell and tail housing is required to convert that Chebby trans... Ugh. That means, unless I got a screaming deal on parts, I would pay at least $750 on parts. I suppose it would only be worth it if I found a chevy trans for under $300.

I've run that idea several times...I just keep waiting for a good deal and each day, tick tick TICK TICK TICK and next thing I know, engine starts, brakes work, lights and electrical are done but I'm stranded in the shop sitting in the cab pretending to be driving and imagining there's a shifter there. Not the first time I've imagined such things among other things lol

Charlie, The bell might not be AS tricky.

There's a fellow here locally that has had a couple of Getrag bells bored out for the NV4500 bearing retainer, then he wire welds extra metal to them to allow the bolt holes to be added for the NV4500 and has the face of the bell machined to true up the places he's welded.
It looks hokey, but he's been running one for over 50k miles, over several years and has pulled 30k pound trailers up out of ditches with it. No breakage, yet.
We just used another of his bells in a '93 that's not on the road quite yet, so we'll see if it duplicates well.

Personally, I'm also looking into fitting the Getrag bell with a 2nd gen fork, since the OEM Getrag forks are basically non-existent.

Those parts are still cheaper than buying someones trashed out unit you'll hqve to rebuild any how. Stillsmokin had a tread on here where he went into great detail on his switching and swapping. As far as prices of the parts you could look into used pieces to convert with, that is standard practices anyhow with most trans rebuilders. Look into it a little more before ditching the idea to bloated opinion
Oh and the cluster/counter shaves driven gear presses off along with the next, the third drive gear. Also if a little machining is required....what is that to you? Apparently you have a lot of connections or you would not have have of the stuff done to your axles. Another words it would be nothing to overcome for you

Oh and Mr Mark.... Nice editing

Addition:
Just looked on Ebay and every part can be bought for less than 300$ to convert. Input and retainer was a fuzz over 100$ and the counter gear was 58$ there was also a bearing kit for 130

Got a lot done!

Bought my high steer arm kits, spindle bearings, king pin sets, wheel seals and put it together! Painted axle and then assembled some more of the cab. Also got some work on Nick's rat rod done. Starting to piece the back of the cab together and finished the trans tunnel. Also sandblasted and assembled his 9" rear. Also, Screwed up the passenger front wheel seal which is why I didn't finish assembly on that side. The lockout hubs are almost NEW. I picked them off a fresh ford at the yard on Saturday.....

Yes, those are 5/8" wheel studs! :alien:

Sits pretty high. Hopefully it will go down a couple inches with the drivetrain installed.

Cleaned shop up a little. Getting more space as the truck goes together! The best part now is I have Thursday-Monday to kick butt on this stuff.

Man, that truck sits WAY TOO HIGH.
Looks like a rollover waiting to happen. :(
Wider axles will help counter that, though.

Love the color. 8)

I thought you didn't like the way the front fenders looked after cutting the bottoms off?

I cut them the first time below the marker lights. Then, I decided to follow the panel lines and cut them higher. They fit really nice with the rad support too.

That thing should level out pretty well. They have an extra 300lbs of capacity for an added bumper and the frame boxing. It's a little high but I'll widen the track a little bit and have sway bars front and rear.
