NICE!!! So is that an HX40?

Regarding the rear spring ride quality, have you thought about a shackle flip? A DIY way is to use the front mounts for the rear springs on the rear eye as well. Then, rotate the shackle up and bolt it together. You may have to get rid of your spring blocks to get it level again.

It appears to be a HE351CW. The exhaust he was running has a 3" v-band flange, but he cut that off and put a 4" on it with an adapter that bolts to the HE351CW....

Dude, that truck is AMAZING   !!! IMO the bumper could be a little bigger with some led lights. Other than that, its perfect. I wish I could find some nice old donor trucks around Nor cal that I could buy.

Wow! Puts my 79 Crew Cab to shame!Mine was a little different project. I took a 2wd 78 crew long box and made it 4wd. Used a couple donor trucks and it is now a CTD/A618/205 truck. 3.54 Dana's. Kelderman front air bags. Did the same thing with my core support. Retained all the original body panels too like you did. I wish I had taken more pics along the way. Mine has been on the road since 2010 and runs like a top. I wish I had done a 5 spd though.

Good looking truck. Love to see them with a trailer hauling stuff!!!

Absolutley no regrets on my end going with the manual tranny. I am sure that I will need to do the NV swap at some point but for now I like the Getrag. Been a solid tranny so far and 5th gear has not fallen off yet

Thanks man. Had the buggy for about 7 or eight years now, it keeps changing with the times, fun build but its time for some coilovers and some more power

Been tying up all the loose ends lately, built a swing away spare tire carrier a few weekends back and loaded up a huh? 37 on it. I added a little more tube to the rear of the bed to support the top of the tire after I shot these photos too, but you get the idea.

I had lots of ideas and dont know if I am sold on the look but it is very functional for me, I can still use the floor of the bed to put stuff flat on it, I can open and close the tailgate and get up into the bed and it will be great for our trip to Alaska this summer being able to get it out of the way to get stuff from the bed.

Also been dealing with the little stuff, installed the correct white backup lights and wired in. Switch in tranny is bad though so I need to get that replaced sometime.

Replaced the master cylinder Monday night and bled the brakes. The rears still lock up when you first take off but not going to worry about that much before I head to Moab.

Replaced all the badly cracked factory couplers on the pressure piping with a kit from source last week.

Still battling with some hesitation on the top end, thinking it might be a combination of bad fuel or water in the fuel and a lift pump issue. So I picked up a low pressure piston lift pump from Cummins last week and plan on getting that on tonight.

One question for you first gen guys....When do I need to think about an upgrade to the injection pump? Just curious if I am anywhere near there with my setup.

75 or 100hp injectors (they were in it when I bought it and I cannot remember which ones they are)
Denny T stage two pin
Intake
HE341 running 40lbs + boost
Low pressure piston lift pump

I am getting ready to head to Moab towing the buggy for the first real long haul and want to make sure everything is safe for the long haul. Anything I should be doing to make this reliable other than what I have going on?

Thanks in advance for the advise.

Now that you have an awesome truck, lets preserve it!

I recommend a couple things here:

The crude rectangular patch above the door hinges on the center pillar, seam seal that. It is the source of center pillar rust and those streaks starting by your hinges. Use 3M 08405 seam sealer. It looks like clear silicone but it is in a caulk tube and dries rock hard. Just don't get it on your hands.

Remove cab lights and spray with Eastwoods green phosphate frame coating. It has a flexible hose wand that you can later adapt to spray cans. Just buy one and use the wand on other cabs. It is a good idea to seal the gaps in the roof panels or else you have green streaks coming through the cab seams onto the cream colored paint :alien:.

Take your cowel panel off and seal the seam inside the cowl that runs the width of the cab in the rain trough. That will keep those floors dry. Check your seam sealer above the windshield gasket seal under the drip rail and in the drip rail. Any cracks or openings will be a nightmare in the near future. It only takes a couple years for a nice truck to develop super rust when it is daily driven or outside often.

Looks good! Can't wait for more updates!

If you get to Homer on your Alaska trip, look me up. The boat is in the harbor ready to go all summer. Doesn't get much better than fishing and talking trucks.

If you're talking about the 6 door, yeah, I bought it from the ebay buyer. It's been on a couple of round trips to Oregon and Nevada now, makes a nice Alcan rig.

Hackster,

Don't know if you are ever on this site anymore but I am looking for a crew cab long bed frame for my truck. I have a 4wd and am looking to convert to a long bed but I don't want to cut the frame. I am over in Boise are so if you have it still I would be very interested in purchasing it from you.

Thanks in advance for the response
